gripping the country since the crisis began is now easing. >> reporter: vinita and rob good morning to you, protest have spe have spent two weeks demanding change in their change and their government has began to respond with concessions with president mubarak still in power those who oppose him say they simply cannot turn back now. in cairo this morning, protesters show their resolve, while the city works to regain a routine. banks reopened for the first time in a week. cars returned to the streets passing military tanks. >> we have to stop now until we can see the change. >> reporter: egypt's vice president met with 50 opposition leaders yesterday and announced concessions like freedom of the press and releasing people held since the protests began. at the table, representatives of the muslim brotherhood which had been banned from government meetings for 30 years.

>> we are not fundamentalists. >> reporter: a member of the brotherhood's leadership counsel said the group will not seek presidency when hosni mubarak steps down. in an interview with fox news, president obama said that time lane remains unclear. >> mubarak, is he going to leave? >> we don't know what he's going to know. here's what we know. egypt is not going back to what it was. >> reporter: the question of what egypt will become and the role played by groups such as the muslim brotherhood. >> they are all organized and there are strains of their ideology that are anti-u.s., there's no doubt about it. >> reporter: egypt's stock market remains closed until at least wednesday. and that curfew is still in place. certainly, there are signs of uneasiness that remain right along with those protesters. vinita and rob. >> emily schmidt reporting this morning in washington. let's get a check live of abc's aaron ket tersky on day 14 of

the uprising. what seeing this morning in any sense we really have reached a turning point? >> reporter: i'm not sure this is a turning point, rob. or a continuation of the status. many who fill the square this morning say they are not giving up. they say they have achieved so much so far, and they see no reason to turn back now, especially because they believe they have the government on the brink. already there have been a series of concession. they're not convinced these are actually all that meaningful. they think they're just more cosmetic. and they say that even though the government is portraying this idea that they're getting back to normal, they're getting people back to work, they're getting a political process going, the people in the square say they still have the power of the street. and i think they're keen to use it. >> aaron, we just heard it from the president himself, the muslim brotherhood is known to have anti-u.s. sentiments. how significant is it that they're being included in these

talks? >> reporter: well, i think they're just part of the reality here. and ultimately, the government says a government represented by the people through a democracy is ultimately going to be better for the world than a repressive regime that has been in place for 30 years here. they say, vinita, that the muslim brotherhood told us they do not want to run for president. they do not even want to be in the cabinet. but they are certainly going to be playered there. but if we take them at their word, they say they want to uphold egypt's peace treaty with israel. but they say they're not fundamentalists and they have no desire to turn the country into a theocracy. >> aaron katersky in cairo. thank you. iraqis are taking to the streets, too. thousands marched in baghdad and four other cities to protest deteriorating conditions. they want more electricity, more

jobs, and a crackdown on crime and corruption. iraq's prime minister is feeling the heat. this weekend, he said he will not run for a third term will not use violence against demonstrators and also promised more rations of food. one of the architects of the iraq war donald rumsfeld is speaking back to his critics in a new book and an exclusive interview with diane sawyer. diane will have a preview on "good morning america" later today. and more later on "world news" and also on "nightline." a hearing has ended for three americans charged with spying in iran. the closed-door proceedings for josh fattal and shane brauer were done. their lawyer entered a not guilty for all three. the judge set another hearing but set no date. in ohio, two men are under arrest after a shooting rampage near youngstown state university.

it all happened after a party at a off-charges house. two men were asked to leave a party but returned and opened fire. one student was killed, 11 others injured. one critically. well, they are still digging out after last week's blizzard in chicago after a few more inches of snow fell yesterday. e and city services will be operating as normal today. that includes includes parking meter enforcement. now for this morning's weather from around the nation, there will be showers in the northeast but folks will be happy that temperatures will be mild. the southeast will see a wintry mix of rain and snow. t will be fair across the southwest and wet in the pacific northwest. snow in the rockies. the upper plain states remain in a deep freeze. >> fargo will get no warmer than 2 below zero. and minneapolis will be in single digits today. high temps in kansas city will be below freezing while the midwest sees highs in the

welcome back, everybody. well, a big deal is shaking up the online media world this morning. aol is buying the huffington post. the $315 million deal will put the new site's founder, arianna huffington, in charge of aol content. the huffington post gets 25 million visitors a month. the move could boost the aol struggling sales. it's time for a check of market activity starting overseas. tokyo's nikkei average gained 48 points. hong kong's hang seng is down sharply in late trading. in london, the wall street opened higher. the dow started at 12,092. after gaining 268 points last week. the nasdaq index gained 82 points to close at 2769.

the nasdaq is reassuring its customers this morning that hackers did not reach any of their data. the nasdaq announced over the weekend that hackers breached a confidential communication service. the identity of the hackers and the motive is not yet known. ford says it will increase factory production here in the u.s. by 13%. it's responded to pretty strong sales. retail sales to individual buyers rose 27% last month. other automakers also reported strong january sales. and we are learning about the price of that huge winter storm that struck the u.s. last week. a company that specializes in disaster costs say the storm may have cost up to $1.4 billion in insurance losses. and "the roommate" was the nation's number one movie during the super bowl weekend. the thrill is about a first-year college student who becomes obsessed with her new roommate. meanwhile "sanctum" and no strings attached" second and third.

commercials. carmakers were those shelling out $3 million for 30 seconds. many ads featuring celebrities from justin bieber to joan rivers. a day to be entertained by the ads, as well as the action on the field. >> james jones. >> of course, picking your favorite ad is a subjective thing. everyone seems to have their favorites. >> "usa today" actually ranked them using second by second feedback from a panel of viewers. volkswagen with a pint-size darth vader ranked pretty high. this is getting a lot of play. kind of a cute one there for the kids. the kid is empowered there by the costume. >> this was so funny. as for the top spot, there was a dog on tie on top of the "usa today" rankings. we loved this dorito's ad seeing a pug being bribed by a chip only to get revenge on the guy doing the bribing. take a look at the world's strongest pug ever. this was consumer created. dorito's is well-known for letting their consumers make commercials. >> that was a great one.

collins intercepts the pass. 37 yards to the touchdown. 14-0, the pack. second quarter, pack, 14-3, first and ten, rodgers finds jennings, takes a big hit. packers up 21-3. late in the second, big ben finding hines ward back in the end zone. and the steelers still down 21-10. second and two for pitt. trailing, mendenhall fumbles and possession. mendenhall. ensuing drive, packers from the red zone, rodgers to jennings. packers leading 28-17. and later in the fourth, roethlisberger trying to engineer a comeback for the black and gold, hence, mike wallace. the steelers go for two.

courtroom which will determine whether he'll be expedited to sweden to face sex charges. assange argues that sweden could end up sending him to the u.s. where he could get the death penalty for exposing military secrets. this morning, firefighters in ohio expect to finally put out a stubborn chemical fire sunday. several freight cars carrying ethanol went up in flames. astronaut mark kelly returns to the nasa training center. kelly had taken time off to be at the bedside of his wife, congresswoman gabrielle giffords as she recovers from a shot in the head. actress lindsay lohan could face new criminal charges as soon as today. her lawyer denies lohan stole a necklace worth $2,500 from a jeweler. she claims it was loaned to her. and the super bowl champions green bay packers return home from dallas today. they will drive through green bay in a motorcade which will undoubtedly be a huge celebration at lambeau field. for some of you, your local news is next.

finally from us this morning, celebrations around the country are marking the 100th anniversary of ronald reagan's birth. >> all the tributes, of course, are sure to stoke the myths surrounding the former president, but how well do those myths match the man?

here's david kerley. ♪ god bless america >> reporter: a centennial celebration befitting a president. celebrating a man who redefined the republican party, cherished by the conservatives. >> i have one thing to say to the tax increases, go ahead, make my day. >> reporter: the now political icon is a campaign mentioned. >> ronald reagan. >> ronald reagan. >> reporter: and not just republicans, democrats seeing that history has been good for the 40th president are trying to co-op part of his legacy but racing of the reagan's y that legacy by both sides of the aisle may strip away the former president's ideals. may hit harder for conservatives to move the country to the right. but those same conservatives have been purposeful in reagan myth-making. for 14 years, one group has worked to get airports, roads and buildings named in mr. reagan's honor. can that diminish the conservative cause?

>> i don't see how conservatives can be depressed by that, because what reagan meant then and now means that we're going to discuss conservative politics in a conservative vocabulary. >> reporter: the reagan message -- >> our government is too big and it spends too much. >> reporter: -- of smaller government and fewer taxes didn't become a reality. while he dramatically cut tax rates, he also signed tax increases in six of his eight years in office. rather than shrinking government, spending actually increased 2.5% each year he served. and the national debt tripled, leaving us plenty to debate. >> how many times can we say that historians 100 years after they left office would be still writing history? ronald reagan would be one of those. ♪ happy birthday to you >> reporter: david kerley, abc news, washington. >> sometimes, the legend can be different from the facts, right?
